Kraven the Hunter (Sergei Kravinoff; Russian: Сергей Кравинов) is a well-known fictional character from Marvel Comics, first appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 in August 1964. Introduced as one of Spider-Man's most dangerous adversaries, Kraven has remained a key figure in the hero's rogues' gallery. Over the years, he has clashed not only with Spider-Man but also with other Marvel heroes like Black Panther and Tigra. Kraven is the half-brother of the Chameleon and one of the original members of the Sinister Six, a villainous group united against Spider-Man.
Portrayed as a legendary big-game hunter, Kraven’s ultimate goal is to defeat Spider-Man, proving himself as the greatest hunter in the world. Though often arrogant and boastful about his skills, Kraven is characterized by a strong sense of honor, seeing his opponents as equals until they fall short of his expectations. This sense of respect has occasionally led to his portrayal as an antihero, even forming alliances with characters like Squirrel Girl and, at times, Spider-Man, whom Kraven comes to admire after several defeats.
Kraven is widely regarded as one of Spider-Man's most iconic and formidable foes, gaining significant attention through major storylines such as 1987's Kraven's Last Hunt, 2010's Grim Hunt, and 2019's Hunted. In 2009, IGN ranked him as the 53rd greatest comic book villain of all time. Beyond the comics, Kraven has appeared in numerous Spider-Man-related media, including animated series and video games.
